Autumn is here and it is time to get back to fitness training. Why not get few friends together and learn Nordic Walking. It is an easy and enjoyable way to fitness and health. Join one of the workshops for novice Nordic Walkers or the Eastbourne regular Nordic Walking group and you will get the benefits of an effective exercise and good company.
Do you want to loose weight? Nordic Walking burns more calories than normal walking. Our study at the University of Brighton showed that the energy expenditure and heart rate of healthy people over 60 years of age was 20-40 % higher when walking with the Nordic Walking poles when compared to normal walking at the same speed. This means that you will use more calories and improve your cardiovascular fitness more effectively when using Nordic Walking poles without having to walk faster than normal walking.
Do you have painful joints? The use of poles in Nordic Walking takes the strain off the lower limb joints, increases the movement of the spine and shoulders thereby alleviating hip, knee and back pain. It relaxes the shoulder and neck muscles and therefore can even relieve tension headaches.
Do you suffer from Asthma or shortness of breath? Nordic Walkers with these conditions have claimed that they are breathing more easily and do not feel breathless even when exerting themselves during Nordic Walking.
Nordic Walking is a popular fitness and health promoting activity in Europe. It was invented in Finland as a summer training for competetive cross country skiers and recently it has become a popular fitness activity for people of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels. It can be done on the city streets, parks, seaside promenades, hills and forests. It is an enjoyable group or family activity, but it does not require company or special location if you just want to release stress and go "stomping" at the end of a stressful day at work. Nordic Walking is good way to take up the current Government initiative for healthy living and prevention of illnesses like diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular problems and high blood pressure.
